This free online Spirituality Group takes place on Monday evenings, and is for anyone who is interested in the spiritual path (whether or not he or she is participating in the hatha yoga classes). The intention of the group is to provide a framework for our spiritual development, as well as a supportive forum in which to share our experiences of living the spiritual path.
You are welcome to join the meetings any time. Come as you are, with open heart and open mind, no prior knowledge is required.
The weekly meetings usually alternate between a Bhagavad Gita book study, and a group Meditation practice, as follows:
Bhagavad Gita book study
The Bhagavad Gita is the ancient timeless living source yoga text, which describes the spiritual path in a practical manner, and in the context of Karma (Action) yoga, Jnana (Spiritual Knowledge) yoga, and Bhakti (Devotion) yoga. In order to make this ancient text more understandable and relatable to us modern day westerners, we study the book in connection with the revelations of enlightened master Sat Shree of New Dharma.
A typical book study meeting starts with a short silent sitting, followed by watching a video excerpt of Sat Shree’s teaching of the Gita in relation to a particular chapter. We then have a group discussion about the text and teachings, and about how we can bring it into our lives. We progress sequentially (chapter by chapter) through the book, but you are welcome to join us at any point, since each chapter stands on its own.
Meditation
We practise the meditation technique taught by Sat Shree of New Dharma (Anne’s meditation teacher). The practice of meditation connects us with our essential and unchanging nature. In it’s most basic form, meditation is very simple: as we practise shifting our attention from outward to inward, we eventually find some calmness … then follows stillness, peace, and ultimately Love.
There will be guidance into the meditation, which can be especially helpful for those who do not yet have an established meditation practice. The Meditation meetings usually end with an informal lightly-guided discussion amongst the attendees.
If you attend these Spirituality Group meetings, you will experience a supportive, respectful, friendly, and sacred atmosphere. You will feel like you are part of a sangha (spiritual community).
